Eating Out

One of the joys of visiting Moles House is visiting at one or more of the local pubs, whether it's just for drinks in the beer garden, a lunch stop during one of the many local walks or a sociable dinner in the evening. I have included some information to give an idea of the food and prices but these do change seasonally, give them a call to book a table!

The Horseshoe Hotel

The Horseshoe Hotel can be found just over the river. To get to the pub you can cross the two sets of stepping stones which are great fun, especially on the way back!
Sit in the sunny beer garden and order food from the bbq van or otherwise choose to eat in their quirky restaurant  serving a delicious range of home cooked food using seasonal locally produced ingredients. Well behaved dogs are welcome.

The Postgate Inn

Also in the village, The Postgate Inn. Turn left at the top of Broomhouse Lane and just past the railway bridge you will find the pub on the left next to the station. Mark the owner/chef has created an exciting top notch menu using locally sourced meat, game and fish, his dishes are delicious and usually served with a dish of tasty fresh vegetables. The menu generally stays the same but there are always a variety of seasonal specials on the numerous blackboards dotted around the fireplace.
A lovely cosy country Inn, a nice selection of ales and seating either in the bar, the restaurant or outside in the garden. Dogs are welcome in the bar.

The Wheatsheaf Inn

Just up the hill in Egton you will find The Wheatsheaf Inn. It's a strenuous walk but just a 2 minute drive. The Inn offers a lovely menu of British cuisine in a fabulous blue, vaulted barn like restaurant. Delicious food, maybe a simpler more traditional menu than the Horseshoe and Postgate but if you have children this menu may be more suitable. There is usually a blackboard with seasonal specials which in our experience have been delicious. Dogs welcome in the bar.

The Witching Post

Almost next door to the Wheatsheaf Inn at Egton you can find The Witching Post Inn. A comfortable and friendly atmosphere where everybody is welcome including walkers along with their dogs. Traditional pub grub is served and on Sunday their menu also includes the traditional roast dinner, a selection of roast meats with all the trimmings. Affordable, family menu!

The Mallyan Spout Hotel

You could explore a little further and visit the Mallyan Spout. A beautiful Hotel situated in the picturesque village of Goathland made famous from the filming of the TV series Heartbeat.
Dine either at the Spout bar or the award winning Valley View restaurant offering a varied, modern menu. Definitely worth the drive if you fancy an alternative menu to the local pubs and the prices considering the location are reasonable.

The Homestead Kitchen Restaurant

The Homestead Kitchen Restaurant which is located next to the Mallyan Spout Hotel has just won The Best Local Restaurant 2025. Opening in 2021 by Peter and his partner Cecily, they embrace the use of local seasonal produce and grow much of what they use in their organic allotment. This is fine dining at its best and the couple have recently been awarded the coveted Michelin green star. Definitely worth a visit for a special occasion.
